• Degrease cabinet fronts, handles and the backsplash around the stove.
• Clean inside cabinets and drawers, not just the exteriors.
• Clean the inside of the oven, hob and rangehood filter if these came with the unit.
• Clear and wipe the inside of the fridge if it is provided.
• Scrub the sink, taps and the wall area behind them.

Bathrooms — the second deposit decider

• Scrub tiles and grout lines, including the darker build-up near the floor.
• Descale taps, the shower head and glass screens.
• Clean the toilet thoroughly, including the base and behind it.
• Clear any mould around seals and ceiling corners.

Floors, walls and the spots people forget

• Sweep, mop or scrub all hard floors; deep clean any carpeted areas.
• Wipe skirting, door frames, door tops and light switches.
• Clean interior glass, window panes and — easily missed — the window tracks.
• Wipe down sliding doors and grilles, including the runners.
• Check ceiling corners and fan blades for dust.

Time it right

An empty unit cleans faster and far more thoroughly than a furnished one — nothing to work around, every surface reachable. Schedule the clean after your furniture is out and before the handover inspection. Leaving it to the last hours before you return the keys is how spots get missed.

Doing it yourself versus booking it

If the unit is small, lightly used and you have a clear day, a careful DIY clean can pass.
